Director/Senior Analyst (Corporates/ Financial Institutions)

 Reporting to the Head of Ratings & Research

Key Responsibilities

Portfolio Management

  • Responsible for managing a team of analysts and associate analysts and for delivering the rating group’s (either Corporates or Financial Institutions) strategic priorities including providing insightful credit analysis and accurate credit ratings at all times
  • Manage credit analysis of the assigned industry portfolios, including addressing credit issues in a timely and consistent manner, maintaining high ratings quality and transparency with forward-looking views
  • Manage the ratings process effectively, including by chairing rating committees. Ensure that policies and procedures and best practices are always consistently applied
  • Harmonize analytical approaches, implement new policies & procedures and proactively drive process improvements in close cooperation with the Head of Ratings
  • Oversee analytical processes related to portfolio reviews and other credit projects
  • Undertake and coordinate ad hoc projects to advance the franchise and support management priorities
  • Develop within the rating group a strong base knowledge of credit rating methodologies and best practices, expertise in addressing credit issues affecting the assigned companies and sectors, complex corporate capital structures and legal documentation, and the credit implications of Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) issues

Research, Stakeholder Outreach and Strategic Initiatives

  • Develop and implement research and outreach plan with team; oversee execution and quality. Monitor changes in research environment and drive new ideas and initiatives
  • Lead outreach efforts and participate in meetings with issuers, intermediaries and investors. Convey credit opinion with transparency and robust analysis
  • Maintain high quality, robust and transparent relationships with senior management of new and existing rated companies, intermediaries, investors and other market participants
  • Develop in-depth knowledge of the assigned industry sectors, and take thought leadership initiatives to enhance analytics and focus on high quality market engagement
  • Liaise as a steward for VIS Rating more broadly; leverage professional integrity, transparency and fairness in all interactions
  • Contribute heavily to thought-leading research, and be a key spokesperson at industry conferences, with press/ media and the broad finance community
  • Oversee special projects and working groups to advance the broader organization’s strategic objectives which include solidifying the organization’s market position, enhancing operations, and growing the business

Coaching & Guidance

  • Provide mentoring and coaching for best practices for internal and external meetings
  • Be involved in hiring, developing and motivating team members, working closely with HR as appropriate
  • Demonstrate model behavior and positively influence the team

 

Requirements/Qualifications

  • University or higher degree in economics, finance, banking, accounting, audit, statistics, business administration or professional field in the business lines of credit rating agencies. Graduate/second level degree (Masters, MBA) a bonus
  • At least ten (10) years’ working experience in any of the fields: economics, finance, banking, accounting, audit, statistics, business administration or professional field in the business lines of credit rating agencies
  • Ability to manage a team of credit analysts with experience in multiple sectors, while developing individuals, leveraging people and delegating responsibilities
  • Ability to build strong professional relationships at all levels and represent the organization’s brand effectively
  • Highly organized and efficient, with drive and ability to think strategically and execute strategies within the team and across the organization
  • Strong quantitative aptitude and demonstrated analytical ability. Extensive understanding of local and regional debt capital markets
  • Excellent communication skills in English and Vietnamese - able to communicate clearly and succinctly including the ability to articulate complex analytic and strategic issues and influence audiences of different skill and knowledge levels
